“I grew up in a religious tradition that was strict about many things, including the way Jesus was portrayed or talked about. I constantly felt like I was breaking the rules or being corrected, which was confusing. Spirituality can be this big, wonderful mystery, but growing up in a very regimented religion felt limiting.
I'm no longer religious but I am still a big fan of the teachings of Jesus. It felt so good to design this little bookmark and portray Jesus exactly the way I wanted to-- less austere and more joyful. I was thinking specifically about the word "flourishing," which is one of the words Zach uses throughout his book, and this design popped into my head. It was a little bit of art therapy, honestly.”
